Storage and cold weather use

If you do not need to use your fence charger for a few weeks or more, especially during winter, disconnect it and then store it somewhere dry that does not go below freezing . The slight amount of heat the fence charger generates during use removes dampness. Repeated freezing can damage some models.

 Cold weather use

If you have a fence charger that will not operate satisfactorily when the temperature is very cold:

  • Mount the fence charger on an inside wall or at least on a well-insulated outside wall (inside the barn).
  • If the fence charger still will not work properly, build a plywood box for it and then hang a 25 to 60-watt light bulb inside the box. The bulb's heat will warm the fence charger sufficiently for normal operation.
